What the Honorary Consul Can Do For You 
 
We currently have two partners who serve as Honorary Consul. Mark Green has been the Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany for the Yorkshire region since 2000 and his jurisdiction was extended to Manchester and the surrounding area a few years later. He fulfils various formal administrative duties, primarily for German, Norwegian and Swedish nationals and companies present in the UK. The main services include:

• Certification of signatures and copies of documents for use by individuals and companies in Germany/Norway/Sweden; please note that Austrian authorities tend to accept documents authenticated by the German Honorary Consul also.

• First contact for childrens’ passport applications (for Norwegian nationals only);

• Formal application for all German passport renewal applications (not first applications), including all necessary biometric scanning;

• Pick up service for passports (for Norwegian and Swedish nationals only);

• Provision of assistance for incriminated nationals; and

• Authentication of certain German company law matters.

Please note that all appointments at the Consulate must be booked in advance. For nationals picking Swedish passports the relevant fee of £14 (cash only) must be paid at the Consulate otherwise the passport cannot be delivered. It is the responsibility of the Swedish applicant to contact the Swedish Consulate to ascertain whether their passport has arrived in Birmingham and to make an appointment.  The Consulate in Birmingham will not contact the applicant either by telephone or email in the first instance.

Honorary Consul are also responsible for promoting the economic, social and cultural links between the countries in their respective regions. Mark receives regular political and economic data from the German Embassy and updates them on relevant regional developments and Charles has hosted various Norwegian delegations when visiting the Midlands.

Please note however that Honorary Consuls cannot issue visas or answer visa enquiries and these should be directed to the German,  Norwegian or Swedish embassies in London.
