Life has been pretty eventful over the past couple of weeks what with a Royal Wedding, a new Pope and the FA Cup Semi Finals. However, even with all this excitement you could not fail to have noticed that the General Election campaign is moving into full swing – that is, of course, unless you live in Cumbria, Britain’s self-declared election-free zone!

Numerous column inches have been taken up with election discussion and hours of television coverage has been given over to politicians trying to convince us all that their policies on health will do the most to reduce hospital waiting lists, and that their proposals on asylum will prove to be the most effective. Most of us have even had a “personal” letter from a party leader drop through our letterbox.

As the politicians don their smartest suits, board their election buses and put on their sincerest expressions, we take a look at what the three main parties have promised for employers and employees….
